.forward and .procmailrc

The .forward and .procmailrc files help you get mail to where you want it to be. The .forward file is the one that you will find available on more systems, but the .procmailrc provides you with more options. It is probably best to learn both and use the one that you think is the best for your purposes. Once you have decided to create one of these files you will have to put the file in your home directory.
